Pavlok Review | Can You Break Bad Habits Once And For All?

Pavlok Review

Will The Pavlok Help You Change Your Habits?

That is the exact same question I asked myself when I saw a bracelet that shocks your wrist every time you do something wrong.  How can this little device help me change my habits once and for all?  Because aren’t our habits going to eventually help create our true destiny?  Now is the perfect time to at least try to change your bad habits because chances are they aren’t going to just magically go away.

Our brains are programmed to instill our habits into our everyday behaviors so much that it is almost impossible to change a bad habit that has been injected into our everyday lives for many years.  The worst part about our habits are that they are usually performed while we are unconscious that they are happening.

That is why I am continuously looking for ways to alter my habitual behaviors.  I want to take control of my habits once and for all.  If you’d like to do the same, then I suggest you keep on reading this article to see if this Pavlok review will help you decide whether or not you want to try the Pavlok habit system for yourself.

My First Pavlok Impression

So I ordered my Pavlok on sale and that was definitely a good start.  It arrived pretty quick so when I opened it up I was excited to see if this thing actually worked.  When I took the shocker (not the sex term you freak) out of the box, I initially started charging it right away.  You know how you feel when you get a new toy.  You want to use it right away.  The good thing is that it charged very quickly.

Pavlok Review Habit Change

Change Your Habits, Change Your Life

Then I continued to read the instructions and I checked out the website.  I came across the “Change your habits, change your life” line and I decided it was time to select the first habit I was going to change.  Which habit did I choose to start with?

My First Habit:  Nail Biting

Yeah, I am not going to lie.  I have bitten my nails on and off for most of my adult life.  The bad thing with biting your nails is that you are completely unaware that you are doing it until it is too late.  I realized that most of the time that I nibble on my nails, I am doing work on my computer.  Not good considering I make my living by marketing on the internet.

I had to do something different or I would have sub-par nails for the rest of my life.  So I started my Pavlok for the first time and selected “nail biting” as my first habit.  Yes, the Pavlok comes loaded with some of the most popular habits people want to change.  Custom habits are also available.

Pavlok Habits

The cool thing is that after I started messing with the settings, I realized that I could have the Pavlok vibrate every time I raised my hand up towards my mouth to remind me not to bite or I would get shocked.  That vibrate started happening at the best time because it made me conscious of my hand going towards my mouth with my chewed on fingernails.

Biting your nails is such a bad habit to have so I was willing to really use my Pavlok to the fullest.  So I began utilizing my new Pavlovian device with no preconceived notions that it would work or that it wouldn’t work.  Then came the first issue that put a damper on my Pavlok.

My First Pavlok Issue

I connected the Pavlok to my iPhone and after it connected for a day, the next day it stopped connecting.  I didn’t like this one bit.  I wrote support within the Pavlok iPhone app and they wrote back saying there were a lot of users having connection errors with the new iPhone iOS.  That kind of sucked but I completely understood what was going on.

The Truth About The Pavlok

You have to understand; even though the Pavlok device has been around since mid-2015, it is still a semi-new device.  Think about any product in the beginning stages.  Take the iPhone, for instance.  The iPhone revolutionized the mobile phone industry but the first iPhone compared to the newest iPhone has an incredibly huge gap.

This is the first edition of the Pavlok (that I know of) so they are only going to get better.  The app is pretty new, the integrations are nowhere near where they are going to be, and the Pavlok team is working hard on this project.

Maneesh Sethi - Pavlok

The Owner:  Maneesh Sethi

Maneesh Sethi is the creator of the Pavlok and you can contact him here in the Official Pavlok User Group on Facebook.  The reason I put the link to the Facebook group is because I see Maneesh in there on the regular talking to his customers.  I don’t personally know him but I know that a company that is ran by a quality leader, is usually a quality company.

Why?

Because the leader is where a company starts.  The company then works its way down.  I have seen Maneesh and his team get scrutinized by other reviews and other people that simply don’t understand where the Pavlok currently is in its lifespan. Maybe some people just don’t like it and that’s okay too.

I don’t blame those people or those reviews.  I simply understand that those are not the people the Pavlok is for…. yet.  Some people don’t want to be a part of a product purchase until the product is proven.  Other people will take chances early on.

Me?  I took a chance.  Keep in mind, this Pavlok review is not over yet.

Thanks Maneesh

I’ve even seen Maneesh put his personal cell phone number on a Facebook post to have any of his users call him directly with any issues they would like to discuss.  This is a man of integrity from what I’ve seen.

Keep up the great work Maneesh!

Patience Is A Virtue… Isn’t It?

Next came the wait.  I had a Pavlok device that was not connecting to my iPhone, which was where the operating system for the Pavlok was located.

That’s like having a Windows computer without having Windows installed on it.  It’s not fun.  You feel like it’s not worth having the computer in the first place since it can’t be used to its full capacity.

So I had to exercise my patience.

Pavlok Support Team

I just wanted to give props to the Pavlok support team.  I contacted the support team many times over the next 2 months.  I told them my problem and they followed up with me every time I messaged them.  The cool thing is that the entire conversation, with dates and times, is all stored within the Pavlok app.

I didn’t contact them on the daily but I was definitely consistent with my messages.  I was told that with the new iOS software, the app was in need of an update and the development team was working day in and day out to make this happen.  I was appreciative for the excellent customer service so I decided to give them a chance.  Why, you ask…

Pavlok Return Policy

One spot that I think the Pavlok really shines in is the return policy.  You get a full 6 months to return the device for a refund.  That shows that the Pavlok team really wants you to try the device out to the fullest before deciding whether you like it or not.

If there was a 30 day return policy, I probably would not have taken the chance.  6 months is an adequate amount of time to decide whether you want your money back or not.  That is actually the only reason I did not return the device right away and I decided to give them a chance to update the app.

It kind of sucked but my expectations were set so I really couldn’t be mad at all.

Pavlok Return Policy

My Wait Paid Off

After waiting about 3 months, my iPhone actually started giving me problems so I decided to completely restore my phone.  About a week later the new Pavlok app was released.  So I was starting with a fresh device and a new app.  I charged up my Pavlok, turned on my Bluetooth signal on my iPhone, and connected the devices.

No way!

No way!

It freaking worked!!!!

Nail Biting Habit Fighting Time

I was still biting my nails.  Even after using that super bitter, shiny polish that you can buy at the store in the nail section.  Every time I walked down the nail and makeup aisle to get that bitter nail polish, people would look at me funny haha.  Whatever fool.  I bite my nails and I want to stop so I’m not scared to buy some shiny nail polish that tastes like ass (don’t say what you’re thinking punk lol).  That’s what was going through my head every time I walked down that aisle!

Ok, back to the story…

So I was still desperate to finally stop biting my nails once and for all.

Did The Pavlok Actually Work?

Oh heck yeah it did!  I don’t know about you but I freaking don’t like being electrically shocked at all.  Even if it doesn’t hurt that much I still don’t like it.

Pavlok Shock

My Thoughts On The Actual Shock

Do not underestimate the power of the Pavlok shock.  It gives you a nice jolt.  I like it because it gets your attention and since our mind responds more to pain than pleasure, I was subconsciously linking nail biting to pain.  That’s the secret of the Pavlok theory.

Biting that bitter nail polish really sucked at first but eventually the pain lessened and my habit took over and had me biting through the bitterness again.  That Pavlok shock only happened one time though.  I bit one nail, pushed the shock button, and that was the last time my nails went towards my teeth.

Yes, you are responsible for hitting the shock button yourself for most of the habits you want to change.  There are some automations though!  I’m always a huge fan of automating my life so that’s one feature I really like with the Pavlok.

Pavlok Integrations

The Pavlok does integrate with the following:

  • RescueTime: You can use RescueTime to really measure where you are spending your time while on your computer.  Pavlok allows you to automatically shock yourself if you spend too much time on a website that you don’t want to be wasting time on.  You can say if you’re on Facebook for 30 minutes that day to shock you.
  • IFTTT (If This Then That): IFTTT is an amazing site if you want to take your life automations to the next level.  It is absolutely free and if you’ve never used it, you will probably need a whole day to play around in there with what you can automate.  Pavlok lets you setup certain automations, where you get shocked if something happens.
  • Slack#: Now you can even use Slack, the premier team communication software on the market right now.  You can do some pretty cool things with Slack and your Pavlok, like sending vibrations to teammates and even shocks for tasks they don’t hit.  We are going to begin using it with our team for our digital marketing agency.
  • Pavlok Unlocked: This web app, created by the Pavlok company, will allow you to help other people with their habits.  If you have a significant other that is trying to quit a habit and may need help, you can have them wear the Pavlok bracelet and you can shock them from your computer when they need it.  They obviously have to be on board with the game plan and that will help them break their habits even quicker.
  • More to come…

Integrations are something that excite me.  I use a lot of tools in my business so being able to integrate with other tools kinda excites me.  Not gonna lie.  I’m excited right…. nevermind.  Ahhhmm Ahhhmm.

My Final Conclusion For My Pavlok Review

If you’re like me, sometimes, you may have scrolled down to the conclusion just to see what my final opinion is on the Pavlok.  If you did, I’m not offended in any way and I totally understand.  That being said, I give the Pavlok two thumbs up!

The reason is because I’ve actually stopped biting my nails for the first time in years.  I have quit biting my nails before but for some reason I always ended up biting them again after some time.  The Pavlok actually helped me associate pain to biting my nails enough to the point that the pain overtook my habit of biting.  I actually became aware of when my nails were by my mouth.  That is one of the main ingredients to quitting a habit: becoming aware.

I am on to my next habit and I will most likely come back and update this post as I knockout other bad habits using my Pavlok.  I’m excited to see what I can really do with the Pavlok as I continue to use mine.

Should You Get A Pavlok?

That depends on a couple things.  Can you handle the fact that the Pavlok is in its early stages?  That means that there aren’t nearly as many integrations that the Pavlok will one day have.  It also means that there may be some communication issues once in a while between the software and the hardware.

There are a lot of moving parts with the Pavlok because we are talking about hardware AND software.  One cool thing that I didn’t take advantage of because I’m stubborn sometimes :), is that you can actually use the hardware without the software.  You just manually shock yourself anytime you are doing the habit you want to stop.

I didn’t do that because I wanted to wait to get the full effects of using both the software and the hardware at the same time.  I wanted to get the full picture so I could create this Pavlok review for you and help you decide whether the Pavlok or Shock Clock are for you.

Final Thoughts

I say you give the Pavlok a shot if you’re on the fence.  You get a full 6 months to try it out and you can return it if you don’t like it for a full refund.  It’s only going to get better as Maneesh and his team continue to develop the software and the integrations.  I’m sure there will be future hardware models as well but we’ll probably get some kind of discount for buying the early model anyways.
